Super Bowl champion pleads his case to return to Eagles, and Philly should absolutely make the call
Former Eagles guard Mekhi Becton found his career revival in Philadelphia and could provide an immediate upgrade on a struggling offensive line.
The Philadelphia Eagles have questions on the offensive line, and a familiar face is practically begging to come back and answer them. Mekhi Becton, the former first-round pick who revived his career in Philly, made his intentions clear when an Eagles fan asked him to return.
His response?
“Tell Howie to call me, man.”
Becton’s case for a reunion
Becton came to the Eagles in 2024 as a guy widely labeled a first-round bust. What happened next was one of the better reclamation stories in recent NFL history. He became one of the best guards in the entire NFL, rediscovered his love for football, and has credited offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland with literally changing his life. The talent was always there. Philadelphia just unlocked it.
Now, things went south after he left. Becton got paid by the Los Angeles Chargers, and it did not work out. It was rough. So rough that he wasn’t even signed heading into this stretch. That’s how bad it got in Los Angeles.
But here’s the thing. Look at where the Eagles are right now. Cam Jurgens has looked bad, primarily because of his health, and there are real concerns across the offensive line. I know some people are going to say Becton no longer fits the scheme, or he’s not needed here anymore. I get it. It’s a different offensive line coach now. But would I take a gamble on Mekhi Becton for essentially nothing? Absolutely. Of course you bring this guy in and try it out.
Howie is already in deal mode
Can it really get worse than what we’re seeing right now? The Eagles have a lot of questions up front and they need answers. And Howie Roseman is clearly in the deal zone. He brought back Zach Ertz because they needed tight end help. He signed Kenny Moore because the secondary needed reinforcements. There’s a pattern forming here, and I have a feeling Becton is next on the list.
If it doesn’t work out, fine. You cut him, send him to the practice squad, whatever. But for a guy who was familiar with this organization, had a great season here, and was genuinely happy in Philadelphia, why not give him a shot? Bring him back, give him a chance. It could, and most likely would, be better than what Jurgens is giving them right now.
