When the Carolina Panthers hired Dave Canales, they knew he brought the ability to resuscitate a quarterback's career with him.

Geno Smith, with the Seattle Seahawks, and Baker Mayfield, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, were enough proof of concept.

But Nicole Tepper, in a recent episode of Up & Adams, revealed that Canales has something far more valuable than merely coaching in his tool bag.

“He’s a visionary," Tepper said. "I’m excited for him, and you wanna play for him, you wanna work for him.”

Coaches often have a secret talent. Some are team builders. Others get the most out of rosters that have no business competing.

For Canales, it is his forward vision that resonated with the Panthers.

And it is a team in desperate need of someone who thinks bigger.

Helping Canales is the wealth of experience he has at various levels of coaching.

During his time in Seattle, he worked with Pete Carroll, who is widely regarded as one of the better NFL coaches of the last 20 years.

He brings that experience to Charlotte – a team desperate for an injection of life.

“He has a passion for people,” Tepper said. “He has an uncanny ability to make this complicated game so simple."

That is what sophomore-year quarterback Bryce Young will need to succeed in the 2024 season – a simple game. Good thing Canales has exactly what it takes.
