The Denver Broncos made a roster move on Friday with a player who started a few games for them in 2023.
Just a few days ahead of NFL Free Agency beginning next week, Denver has opted to release TE Chris Manhertz. With the move, the Broncos saved $2.12 million in cap space and will take on $1.1 million in dead cap.
Manhertz played in 16 games for Denver last season and made four starts. He recorded two catches for 16 yards and played 367 snaps on offense for the Broncos, which was good for 36 percent. Denver signed Manhertz two a two-year deal worth $5.9 million last offseason.
In 2016, Manhertz entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints. The veteran tight end played in three games with the Saints before being picked up by the Panthers, where he spent his time until 2020. Following his time with the Panthers, Manhertz was with the Jacksonville Jaguars for two seasons.
Manhertz has been a blocking tight end throughout his career and that is valued in the NFL as an extra offensive lineman in a way. Manhertz will be 32 years old when the 2024 season rolls around.
It isn’t the Russell Wilson news that many may be waiting for, but the Broncos did indeed part ways with an offensive player to end the week.
