Last offseason was rough in terms of the Kansas City Chiefs finding a new wide receiver in free agency. They missed out on a potential Mike Evans trade, and during free agency, they weren't able to sign DeAndre Hopkins or Odell Beckham Jr. That forced them to draft a wide receiver, which worked out well, as Rashee Rice is already a special talent.
However, they could have used more than that last year despite still finding a way to win the Super Bowl. Their defense carried, and the offense struggled all year. If they want a three-peat, the offense will have to pull their weight a bit more in 2024. So, as we all know by now, the Chiefs went and got one of the best remaining wide receivers available in free agency in Hollywood Brown.
The 2023 offseason saw the Chiefs miss out on those two big-named free-agent wide receivers because they wouldn't budge on the money. The two wanted more than what the Chiefs were offering, and talks fell through on both sides. This offseason was different with Brown, as the money wasn't as big an issue. There were other reasons he felt he had to sign with Kansas City.
"it was quite a few teams; I was really leaving it up to my agent," Brown said on Monday during his introductory press conference. "KC was a place I told him I wanted to be… god made it happen. Pat was a big part of it. Coach Reid has a winning culture.
"The offense made me feel like I could come in and fit in. The mutual interest was very appealing… When the Chiefs are interested in you, you have to take a look at them… I can go get some money at other places, but at the end of the day, it's about winning."
The money is not an issue for Brown. It's clear that he was tired of not winning, whether it be with the Baltimore Ravens, where he started his career, or with the Arizona Cardinals the last two years. He's never really won a meaningful game, and the Chiefs are going for a three-peat, and that's enticing.
Brown is going to be a perfect fit in the Chiefs' offense as wide receiver two. He can be similar to Tyreek Hill, obviously not as good, but something the Chiefs haven't had in a while.
