The Titans have made a decision on what to do with Kyle Philips.
The team will place the second-year receiver on injured reserve with an MCL injury. Since the move happened after the roster cut deadline, Philips will be able to return after the fourth game of the season. Had Philips been placed on IR before today, he would have had to miss the entire season.
The move leaves the Titans with six receivers currently on the roster: DeAndre Hopkins, Treylon Burks, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Chris Moore, Kearis Jackson, and Colton Dowell.
This is disappointing news for Philips as the receiver was expected to bounce back in 2023. Philips started off on fire in his rookie season, leading the team with six receptions for 66 yards in the 2022 season opener. Philips also had a 46-yard punt return in that game to set up a touchdown.
Unfortunately, Philips ended up having two fumbles on punt returns and failed to replicate his Week 1 success. Philips would end up going on IR with a hamstring injury in October and missing the rest of the season.
With Philips on IR, the earliest he can possibly return will be October 8 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, the Titans freed up another roster spot by releasing OL Corey Levin.
