A nightmare became a reality for Tennessee fans during LSU’s game against Clemson.
The Tennessee Vols lost a talented pass rusher to the transfer portal last winter when former five-star recruit Jordan Ross transferred to LSU.
Tennessee would’ve liked to have kept Ross on the roster, but he was ready to move on after the Vols hired a new defensive coordinator.
Ross had a quiet fall camp in Baton Rouge, but he showed up in a big way on Saturday night in LSU’s season-opener against Clemson.
The former Vol dropped into coverage and picked off Clemson quarterback Christopher Vizzina and returned it for a touchdown.
Ross followed up the interception with a sack on the first play of the next drive.
It was quite a sequence, and it confirmed that Ross, despite a quiet two seasons at Tennessee, is a difference-maker for LSU.
The good news for Vols fans, though, is that Tennessee’s pass rush looked dominant earlier on Saturday against Furman as the team totaled six sacks (three of those sacks came from Penn State transfer Xavier Gilliam).
You can’t keep ’em all in the transfer portal era. Every program is going to lose players they’d like to keep from time to time.
Tennessee, however, has done extremely well in the portal for the most part (no one bats 1.000 with roster additions/subtractions).
