The Florida Gators' 2023 season got off to a rough start on Thursday night thanks to a 24-11 loss to Utah, a team that was playing without its starting quarterback (Cam Rising was out while still recovering from a torn ACL).

Florida gets a bit of a reprieve next week when they face McNeese before gearing up for a massive showdown in Gainesville with the Tennessee Vols.

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit gave Florida a stern warning after the game on Thursday night, suggesting that the Gators need to "get it together" before playing Tennessee in a couple of weeks.

"I'm calling this game and all I can think about is what people in Florida are doing watching this game," said Herbstreit on SportsCenter after the game. "Because two back to back losing seasons, Billy (Napier) only had it last year. Then to start the season this way, with the miscues….I think that's the thing that's going to be frustrating for Florida."

"They're going to have to get their act together in a hurry because the Vols with that up-tempo offense are going to be coming to town in a few weeks," added Herbstreit.

Tennessee hasn't won in the Swamp since 2003, but that streak could be coming to an end this season — especially based on how Florida played on Thursday night (the Gators had nine penalties against Utah, most of which were procedural penalties).

While the Vols should leave Gainesville with a victory on September 16, it's far from a certainty considering the bad luck Tennessee's had at times in the Swamp. But it's essentially a must-win game for the Vols — they can't afford to lose to this Florida team — which will put a bit of added pressure on Josh Heupel's squad.
