Wide receiver Bru McCoy is expected to be a big part of the Tennessee Volunteers' offense in 2023. With several huge plays in some of Tennessee's biggest wins of the season, he stole the hearts of Vol fans a year ago.
Now, he's looking to help give back to those who have heart issues.
According to WVLT, McCoy signed an NIL deal in which he will give away an AED device for each touchdown he scores this season. With Jalin Hyatt now in the NFL, that could be a substantial number.
McCoy reportedly started an initiative called Huddle for Hearts earlier this year, in which he partnered up with the Peyton Walker Foundation to give away AED devices to communities in need. The foundation was started in memory Walker, who passed away in 2013 due to sudden cardiac arrest. McCoy selected NewBreed Youth Sports to receive two AED devices in July as part of the initiative.
McCoy was clutch when Tennessee needed him most in 2022, going over 100 receiving yards against Florida, LSU, and Missouri while catching touchdowns against Pitt and Clemson. He also had the catch to put Tennessee in range for the winning field goal against Alabama.
With 52 catches for 667 receiving yards, he was second to Hyatt on the team last season in both categories. As such, he stands to serve as Tennessee's top receiving option in 2023, which should lead to an increase in trips to the end zone for the redshirt senior.
And that would mean potentially a lot of good news for the wellbeing of many youths across the Knoxville area this fall.
