It's finally game week for the New York Giants, as the team preps for its 2023 NFL season opener against the hated Dallas Cowboys. The rivalry on the Sunday Night Football stage will have all eyes on the NFC East foes.

For the Giants, Brian Daboll is looking to build on the success that the team enjoyed during his first season at the helm. Finding a way to win in week one would go a long way in New York getting back to the playoffs after surprising a season ago.

But New York has a difficult task in the Cowboys. Especially against Dan Quinn and the Dallas defense. Led by Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs, the Cowboys have an aggressive and playmaking unit bound to give the Giants some fits.

That's why rookie offensive lineman John Michael Schmitz will play such a big role for the G-Men in primetime. Because there is no question that Quinn is going to be creative in getting after Daniel Jones in week one.

From sending exotic blitzes and utilizing creative designs to create pressure, Quinn will put a lot on Schmitz's plate. The first-year lineman out of Minnesota won't have much time to adjust during his first ever regular season game.

Fortunately, Schmitz has demonstrated the right mindset, suggesting that he won't let the Cowboys get him flustered on Sunday night. That could be one of the biggest storylines when the action gets underway – whether or not Dallas can exploit the second-rounder.

"I would just say I just take it one play at a time, learn from your mistakes," Schmitz said during the preseason. "At the end of the day, respond, response is the biggest thing there is. Learning from what you did and have that next play mentality at the end of the day, don't let one bad play turn into several bad plays, turn it around and go compete the next play."
