While one year may not be the best sample size, it currently looks like the Seattle Seahawks won the Russell Wilson trade.
Seattle was able to get some great draft picks and a quarterback that played better than Wilson in 2022, but that wasn't always a foregone conclusion. Smith was one of two options for the Seahawks to take over for Wilson, and he had to beat out Drew Lock for that honor.
Lock was always a bit of a developmental piece with some flashy moments, so Smith did seem like the better pick from the jump, but Lock has started to play well in recent weeks in a bid that will be remembered as too late to change anything about his current situation on the Seahawks.
As the primary backup to Smith, Lock has played plenty during the preseason in a few games that are sure to raise his value as a trade piece.
Between the two games, Lock has been 22/30 for 310 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. This may not look crazy at face value, but it is pretty damn good for preseason snaps with guys that probably won't crack the active rosters.
Lock has shown poise, arm strength, and has even been able to up his accuracy, especially when hitting guys on the run in tight windows.
This quality stretch of throws has been legitimately impressive to watch, but it unfortunately would take a good bit more than this to unseat Geno Smith and his new contract.
At best, some team is going to run into some issues with its starting quarterback and then have to look to the trade market to stay afloat, but that may not be the worst thing to happen to Lock if it finally puts him on a team where he can showcase the skillset that he has the past few weeks and finally earn a full-time home.
