The Baltimore Ravens have been experiencing some tribulations at the cornerback position, with several guys working their way back from injuries. Last week, they added veterans DeAndre Houston-Carson and Tae Hayes as some insurance.

Baltimore saw their 24-game preseason win streak snapped against the Washington Commanders on Monday. However, Houston-Carson and Hayes didn't waste time making their names known to the Ravens fan base.

Late in the third quarter as the Ravens protected a 21-20 lead, Houston-Carson recovered a fumble by Chris Rodriguez. On the next Commander's possession, Hayes would intercept quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Houston-Carson ended up playing 80 total snaps (63 on defense, 17 on special teams) while Hayes played 47 (41 on defense, six on special teams), according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. That's quite a bit of action, seeing as they just joined the team, but it was needed with the Ravens' situation when it comes to their secondary.

Over his first seven seasons, Houston-Carson has played around safety mostly but has also taken reps at cornerback. His role will be as a quality backup and special teams ace if he makes the team with 180 snaps taken in that area.

Hayes went undrafted out of Appalachian State in 2019. He's spent his career bouncing around to seven different teams and has only played in 13 career games. So, Hayes is simply trying to secure a roster spot in any way he can.

With the deadline for final 53-man roster cuts coming on August 29, Houston-Carson and Hayes will likely get a lot of action in the Ravens' preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If they resemble anything they showed against the Commanders, their roster spots could be secured.
