The New York Giants made a big move this month by trading for former first-round draft selection Isaiah Simmons. Simmons was in need of a fresh start after a rather disappointing stint with the Arizona Cardinals.
Needing an upgrade on defense, the Giants swooped in and made the move to add Simmons to the roster. And all it took was New York parting ways with a seventh-round draft selection.
That little amount of draft selection grabbed the attention of Simmons when the transaction went down. Simmons didn't take that lightly and is now using that move as motivation with his new team.
“I think the Giants got a good deal,” Simmons told the media about the trade while smiling when addressing the topic. “We’ll see if it was worth the seventh [round] pick or not.”
Simmons wasted no time in making an impression with his new team in his one and only preseason game with the Giants this month. In limited snaps, Simmons flashed the ability to rush off the edge and create havoc on defense.
“I don’t really have too many discomforts on the field just because I have spent so much time in various different places," Simmons said of his versatility. "I'm comfortable rushing the passer just like I’m comfortable playing half-field or post safety. At the end of the day, it’s just a position and a responsibility.”
All the Giants had to give up was a late-round pick. Now, they get the opportunity to help the Clemson product flourish in a new environment. It appears as if Simmons is ready to make the best of his new home.
Giants coach immediately shows why trade for Isaiah Simmons was genius
It hasn’t taken long for New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale to show why trading for Isaiah Simmons was so crucial.
