The Dallas Cowboys concluded its 2023 NFL preseason slate with a 31-16 win over the Las Vegas Raiders inside AT&T Stadium on Saturday night. While there isn't a ton to take away, there was one big development from the outing.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott took over play-calling duties for the action, taking on the role as offensive coordinator. The game gave fans an opportunity to see Prescott call the offense from the sidelines, and it was pretty successful.
Prescott helped out one of his teammates in a notable way in the process. Because Will Grier was essentially playing for his next job after Dallas made the trade for Trey Lance going into the weekend.
Grier, who was set to be the third quarterback on the roster, was informed that he will be cut after the Cowboys made the move for Lance. The expectation is that Dallas will carry Prescott, Lance and Cooper Rush at the position on the roster.
Therefore, Grier made the most of his opportunities on Saturday evening. He took the majority of the snaps during the action with Prescott calling the plays for him. Grier completed 29 of his 35 attempts for over 300 yards and two touchdowns.
He added a pair of more touchdowns on the ground, rushing for 53 yards and averaging over five yards per carry in the process. In what was essentially a tryout for other teams, Grier showed out.
Now, Grier will shift his focus to which team will take a chance on his talents after his stint in the Lone Star State. Prescott put his best foot forward in helping his teammate out in that regard.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott will call the plays in preseason vs. Raiders
Should be a fun exercise.
