To be named a captain of any team is a high honor, but to be named captain of the Pittsburgh Steelers offense puts you in rarified air.

Steelers running back Najee Harris realized that last year, being named a team captain in only his second NFL season.

And while he's now lost his captaincy, he's not sweating it when you realize who takes his spot:

"I have No Issue With That"

“Kenny’s the quarterback," Harris told reporters on behalf of Pickett being named the lone offensive captain. "Kenny’s the guy. I have no issue with that. I don’t think anybody has an issue with there being one captain. As long as we win, we’re not tripping. It’s all a team sport."

And while from the outside looking in, it isn't the best of views for the Steelers when you consider all the "noise" about Najee Harris vs. Jaylen Warren, if Mike Tomlin has told us anything over his tenure with the Steelers, it's that they avoid the outside rhetoric

Pittsburgh is a traditional franchise. So while some teams (cough, cough, New York Giants) name seemingly half the team a captain (ok it was 10 but sheesh) Pittsburgh stuck to one offense, two defense, and one special teams player for their 2023 captains

And as Kenny Pickett told reporters, "You don't need a C on your chest to be a leader," showing that he both has Najee's back and understands that the leadership within a locker room goes far beyond accolades.

So Pittsburgh and Harris aren't sweating the narratives that surround the running back position, as asinine as they are. So even though it looks like they are adding fuel to the fire, everyone will see soon enough that Harris is here to stay.
