New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is ready for his new opportunity. He's already a leader for the Saints, and his offense plans to rally around him.
After instability at the QB position since Drew Brees retired, New Orleans hopes that Carr's play and consistency can be a breath of fresh air.
Carr joined SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio with host Adam Schein this past Tuesday. He discussed a plethora of topics, and Carr mentioned Chris Olave as a special type of young player. The veteran QB noted his game knowledge and is extremely impressed in a short time with the Saints wideout.
"He is someone that understands. I don't think he gets enough credit for how smart of a football player he is and understanding the timing, understanding the windows, understanding the speed and tempo which he needs to run certain things to set things up.
His versatility too, to be able to run all the routes. He's not just a deep ball guy. He's not just an intermediate-short guy. He can do everything. Very impressed by Chris and his mentality… very excited to see him continue to grow as a player. But he was another guy I'd watch on film making my decision, and you're like, 'Man, I can see what this can potentially be.' I see what it is already and I'm excited, but I can see what he can potentially also be and it makes me even more excited for the times I'm going to have with him."
It's clear that Olave gained Carr's respect very quickly. Davante Adams had some of the most productive seasons in NFL history for a WR with Carr. Olave is his new WR1, so expect plenty of connections between the two.
The young wideout has gotten praise for his timing ever since his days at Ohio State. Olave's crisp route running and tempo gives him a ceiling that really excites the Saints.
