Tennessee Titans fans have not heard the name Jamarco Jones discussed in quite some time.
A fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Jones spent three years with the Seattle Seahawks before signing a two-year, $5.75 million deal with the Tennessee Titans in March of 2022.
Jones was supposed to provide Tennessee with valuable offensive line depth behind Taylor Lewan, Dillon Radunz, and Nicholas Petit-Frere. There was even some thought that Jones could compete for a starting job if he moved inside. Instead, his season was spent on the sidelines recovering from tricep and elbow injuries.
In a frustrating fourth NFL season, Jones did not play in a single game for Tennessee.
With as much time as Jones missed, his face was hardly seen around the Titans facility last fall. Because of that, he has really developed into the forgotten man on Tennessee’s offensive line. But with Nicholas Petit-Frere being suspended for six games for violating the NFL's gambling policy, there is now a hole at right tackle in Nashville and another opportunity for Jones to earn a major role.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who was on the coaching staff at Ohio State when Jones was first recruited by the Buckeyes, mentioned Jones by name on Tuesday when he was asked about potential starters at right tackle to open the season. As a matter of fact, Jones’ name was the first one out of Vrabel’s mouth.
"Jamarco [Jones] has worked over there in the first couple of days," said Vrabel. "I think Andrew Rupcich will play over there. I think Jaylen [Duncan] will have a shot over there. I think [John Ojukwu] will have a chance over there, John [Leglue]. We'll kind of see where things go. We'll find the best person there."
Heading into training camp, Jones is healthy and relieved to have last season's woes behind him. "It was pretty sh***y…f*****g terrible," Jones said, not holding back about his experience last season. "It didn't happen the way I wanted it to happen. Nobody wants to be on the sideline watching the game, but we're here now and I'm ready to go out there and just compete."
Jones took reps at right tackle with the offensive starters during practice on Wednesday, but he still has a long way to go to earn a starting spot on the 2023 offensive line. That said, it's time for Titans fans to reacquaint themselves with Jones. The forgotten man might just find himself starting in 2023.
