Former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Darnell Wright, the No. 10 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, has received nothing but praise since getting drafted earlier this spring.

In fact, Bears general manager Ryan Poles went out of his way earlier this week to praise Wright's conditioning.

"This offseason he busted his butt," said Poles. "He's down, he lost weight. He's lost body fat. He absolutely crushed the conditioning test — like, he didn't break a sweat. So, he's focused. He cares. He wants to be really good."

It's not a surprise that Wright crushed the conditioning test considering the up-tempo offense he played in at Tennessee. Guys who play in Josh Heupel's offense have to be in elite shape, otherwise they'll never finish a drive.

Playing in Tennessee's offense, however, isn't the only reason why Wright crushed the conditioning test. A rookie mistake that was made by the former five-star recruit helped a bit, too.

According to Bears reporter Adam Hoge, Wright was unknowingly studying the running back conditioning test as he prepared to take the offensive line conditioning test.

And the running back conditioning test, obviously, is significantly more intense (as Hoge pointed out, it's longer and faster).

Wright is clearly eager to do all he can to earn his spot as a starter in Chicago. And so far, he's nailing it. Wright has done everything the coaches have asked and then some. It's pretty obvious that Wright is going to be a key player for the Bears moving forward.
