The 2023 season for the Las Vegas Raiders is already filled with a bunch of unknowns. We have no idea how good or bad the defense will be. There are so many different parts on that side of the ball.

We also don't know how good the offense will be based on if Josh Jacobs is going to play or how much Jimmy Garoppolo will play, and when he does, how good he is?

Most people have pretty low expectations for Garoppolo, even though he has the best receiver in the game, last season's best running back, and a decent offensive line.

But one former NFL head coach thinks he can actually have a breakout year.

Former coach thinks Raiders QB can have a breakout year

Former Los Angeles Rams head coach Mike Martz makes a great point when picking Garoppolo for his 2023 breakout player of the year.

"The guy who is going to have a breakout year is Garoppolo if he'll stay healthy," Martz said in a piece for The 33rd Team. "They are good on the offensive line, and they really added weapons to that offense. He could have the best year he's ever had.

"He's comfortable with (Coach Josh) McDaniels. The system benefits him. They'll gear things toward what he does really well. There's a comfort level between the two: the head coach/play caller and the quarterback. Because the offensive line is playing so well, and with the quality of the perimeter people, he'll have a great season if he stays standing. That's always been a question for Jimmy G: Can you keep him healthy?"

Martz makes great points; however, that if is a pretty big one. Garoppolo hasn't played a full season since 2019. However, he took his team to the Super Bowl the last time he was healthy for a full season (2019).

So, maybe, just maybe, the former NFL head coach is right. The Raiders did take a pretty big gamble on him this offseason with the foot injury. So, you'd love to see it work out that well in 2023.
