The Buffalo Bills have an open competition for the middle linebacker position and as it currently stands, LB Tyrel Dodson is the frontrunner for the position, but he may be hurting his chances as yet another heated exchange went down at camp.

I wrote previously about Dodson swinging, or as he put it in the comment section of Twitter that he was tossing, his helmet at another player during a heated moment at practice yesterday.

Dodson mentioned, in a now-deleted tweet: "Tossing an helmet back to my teammate is different than swinging it as an weapon. Heated competition. We’re all ready to play someone else. Iron sharpens iron."

Tempers were flaring even after practice as Josh Allen had to yell, jokingly, from the podium for people to calm down. I wrote how healthy competition is good, and heated moments are part of the game, but the helmet swinging, or tossing (if you're reading this Tyrel) is just simply not okay.

Dodson found a way to make national headlines, yet again, with another heated exchange in camp. One time is an outlier, but two times have me start to hover over the panic button.

Dodson is doing everything he can to make the roster, but I can't imagine the front office loves another day and another argument, fight, donnybrook, skirmish, whatever you want to call it in camp.

This is the time when Dodson needs his play to do the talking to show the front office he's ready for the leadership that comes along with playing middle linebacker. I am by no means attacking Dodson's character. All I know is what I hear from practice. But his efforts yesterday, how he handled the mishap, bleeding over to yet another argument today rubs me the wrong way.

Dodson can come in ball out, and shut me up, and I would love nothing more than that. This offseason has been filled with unfortunate distractions that stemmed from things blowing over from Stefon Diggs' sideline interaction with Josh Allen after the playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

I would much rather see my timeline filled with Dodson lighting it up, dissecting the defense, and picking off the franchise quarterback instead of squabbling with teammates, jumping to social media, and then getting heated with the offensive line the very next day.

Buffalo doesn't have much depth at the LB position, a worrying sign for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Here's hoping we get some positive plays and good news coming out of camp. I don't need another fight before the next preseason game.
