The Tennessee Titans received a big scare on Wednesday when second-year wideout, Treylon Burks, suffered what looked to be a pretty serious injury.
The exact nature of the injury is unknown, but it certainly didn't look good. Burks came up limping pretty badly after catching a deep ball from Ryan Tannehill. He was later carted off the field:
"It's football," Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins said to Paul Kuharsky of Paul Kuharsky.com after practice. "I'm sure he's going to do what he's gotta do to come back and be ready."
If it is in fact a serious injury, it's a blow to the Titans offense, which was really banking on Burks' Year 2 development, along with Hopkins and second-year tight end, Chig Okonkwo, to anchor the passing attack.
"You hate seeing that. We'll find out more information and see what's really going, but hopefully he's going to be alright," Ryan Tannehill told reporters after practice. "He seemed obviously upset and understandably so. It's thoughts and prayers with him, right now, and hopefully it's not too bad."
"I heard about it when we went into special teams. Obviously [I'm] praying for him and hoping that everything is going well," Pro Bowl safety Kevin Byard said after practice. "He's a big part of what we do as an offense and as a team, so, obviously you want everything to be OK."
Without Burks, the construction of the Titans receiver room looks different even with guys like Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Kyle Philips on the roster. Burks has a unique skill set and can even line up on the inside from time to time, making him a viable No. 2 option in the Titans offense.
When considering the curse that has been placed upon Titans receivers over the years, hopefully this isn't too serious – simply for that sake, alone.
