Miami's starting left tackle suffered an apparent right leg injury on Thursday during joint practice in Houston. After being unable to walk on it, he was taken off the field on a cart.
It's never a good sign when the cart has to come out. However, Armstead appears to be in better shape quickly, having already posted a video on Twitter of him walking without a major limp.
This was confirmed further by his message to ESPN beat writer Cameron Wolfe.
With all that being said, despite Armstead's video, walking and being able to play are far different things. If there was any doubt about whether he'll see the field before Week 1, the book should pretty much be closed on that at this point.
Miami's offensive line, which was plagued with injuries and/or inconsistency at multiple positions last fall, is a unit that absolutely needs to stay on the field this season.
Armstead, who the Dolphins signed to a 5-year $75 million contract in March 2022, is the anchor of that line. Injuries have been a significant problem for the four-time Pro Bowler, as he has not played a full season of games in his 10-year career. That being said, he's as tough as they come, having played in 13 games through a variety of injuries throughout the season. Losing him would be a gut punch to the Dolphins offense.
Fortunately, at least for now, that doesn't appear to be the case.
