Indianapolis Colts defensive end Yannick Ngakoue (91) signals to fans during training camp Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind.

Matt Eberflus and the Chicago Bears added another former Colt to their roster Thursday night when Adam Schefter of ESPN reported their signing of Yannick Ngakoue.

Ngakoue was traded to the Colts last offseason from the Las Vegas Raiders, where the Colts sent former 2nd-round pick corner Rock Ya-Sin.

Following the trade, Ngakoue immediately bought into the Indianapolis area and fan base. He was actively engaging with fans on social media as well as out in the community. After jumping around multiple spots in his career, Ngakoue expressed interest in planting long-term roots in Indianapolis. His stay in Indianapolis, though, would only last one season, as the Colts elected not to bring him back during free agency.

During that 1 season, he suited up for 15 games with the Colts. In his lone season, Ngakoue put up 29 total tackles, 18 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, 16 QB hits, and 9.5 sacks. His 9.5 sacks were the most by any Colt last season, and his 16 QB hits were 2nd only behind DeForest Buckner.

His agent Drew Rosnhaus landed him an excellent deal for this late into free agency at 10.5 million, with 10 million guaranteed. It will be interesting to see how he fits with Matt Eberflus, as he usually prioritizes his defensive end's setting the edge in the run game. And that is an area that Ngakoue has struggled mightily since coming into the league. Which has led him to now be joining his 6th team since joining the NFL in 2016.
