NFL insider hints that the Indianapolis Colts’ interest in Marvin Harrison Jr. is more than just rumors and hearsay at this point

The Indianapolis Colts have a hole in their receiver room and a winnable AFC South. Now the son of a franchise legend is on the trade block, and Adam Schefter was asked directly about Indianapolis.

The NFL trade deadline is looming, and with a month’s worth of data in the books, plenty of names are floating around the league. But for the Indianapolis Colts, no name carries more weight than Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

That’s because ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed on The Pat McAfee Show that teams are calling about Harrison Jr. When McAfee pressed him on whether the Colts were one of those teams, Schefter didn’t shy away.

“Wouldn’t that make a lot of sense?” Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show.

Marvin Harrison Jr. facts

  • He was the 4th pick in the 2024 NFL draft
  • He is in his third NFL season.
  • He caught his first touchdown pass of the season in Week 4.

Why the Colts make sense for Marvin Harrison Jr.

That’s Schefter’s way of saying yes, essentially. The Colts are in on Harrison Jr., and let’s be honest, he would be a great addition to that wide receiver room.

Forget the fact that he’s the son of franchise legend Marvin Harrison Sr. Indianapolis needs help on the outside. Alec Pierce is on the mend after re-aggravating his heel injury.

On top of that, the Colts are coming off a big win with the Pittsburgh Steelers on deck. Their season is still alive because the AFC South is that bad. So if you’re Indianapolis, why not add some ammunition? And why not have that ammunition be the son of a franchise legend?

Why Marvin Harrison Jr. is on the trade block in Arizona

On Sunday, Harrison Jr. hauled in his first touchdown catch of the season for the Cardinals. That alone tells you why he’s in trade rumors. This was the 4th pick in the NFL draft, he’s in year three, and it took until Week 4 for him to find the end zone.

The truth is, I believe a lot of that is tied to Jacoby Brissett. For whatever reason, ever since Brissett took over for Kyler Murray, he just doesn’t look Harrison Jr.’s way. I don’t know if that’s an issue between the two of them, and I don’t know if it’s a schematic flaw. I’m not exactly sure.

What I do know is Harrison Jr. still looks like he can play football. He just needs a change of scenery.

What would it cost the Colts to land Marvin Harrison Jr.?

So the question becomes, how much is he going to cost? The price is the only reason a deal like this might not get done.

Right now, the talks seemingly point to a Day 3 pick. I know it’s hard to believe that a player drafted 4th overall could go for a fourth-round selection or later. But if that’s the price Arizona is willing to accept to part ways with him, Indianapolis should jump at it.

The way I see it, the Colts would be crazy not to offer a fourth-, fifth-, or sixth-round pick for Harrison Jr. A struggling division, an injured starter, and a homecoming storyline all point in the same direction.

The bottom line is this: if the Cardinals are ready to move on, Indianapolis has every reason to be the team that picks up the phone first.
