Indianapolis Colts facing potential nightmare scenario as star wide receiver gets carted to the locker room with foot injury
Pierce had offseason surgery on the same foot, and Indianapolis already faces serious questions about its depleted receiving corps.
The Indianapolis Colts may be staring down the worst-case scenario at wide receiver. Alec Pierce left the field on a cart after spending roughly 10 minutes in the medical tent, where the training staff worked on his left ankle and heel. He is officially listed as OUT after heading to the locker room for X-rays.
The Colts wide receiver suffered the injury on what appeared to be an out-breaking route. Pierce came up limp immediately and could not put weight on his left foot. He hopped from the medical tent to the cart on one leg before being taken back for imaging.

The same foot, the same concern
What makes this so alarming is the location. Pierce had surgery on that same left foot this offseason, he missed practice this past week with a heel injury, and now he appears to have aggravated the area or sustained a new injury to it. If the X-rays reveal anything structural, the Colts could be looking at an extended absence from their No. 1 receiving weapon.
Where does Indianapolis turn?
The truth is, this Colts offense is thin if Pierce misses significant time. Josh Downs becomes the clear top target in the WR room, and beyond him, the options get bleak in a hurry.
Keenan Allen, at this stage of his career, has not provided the production Indianapolis needs. He had two drops in this game alone, and Allen faces a three-game suspension on top of that. He is not going to cut it as a featured weapon in this passing attack.
So what does the Colts’ offense look like without Pierce? Jonathan Taylor, Josh Downs, Daniel Jones, and Tyler Warren. That is about it for Indianapolis, and that is not the kind of supporting cast that inspires confidence.
What comes next
For now, the Colts are waiting on X-ray results to determine the severity of Pierce’s injury. The fact that he could not bear weight on the foot and needed a cart to leave the field is not encouraging. Him being ruled out very soon after is also not a good sign. If Pierce lands on injured reserve, Indianapolis will need to make a move to address the wide receiver position — the current depth chart simply does not have enough firepower to compensate for his absence.
