A Tennessee Vols newcomer sent a message this week that the UT football program should want recruits to hear.
True freshman offensive lineman Ayden Bussell, a three-star recruit in the 2023 class, met with reporters this week for the first time since arriving at Tennessee.
Bussell is one of the Vols' 2023 signees that didn't arrive in Knoxville until after spring practice.
While talking with reporters, Bussell was asked about his impressions of Tennessee and offensive line coach Glen Elarbee during the recruiting process and after the recruiting process.
Bussell was quick to point out that nothing changed about Tennessee or Elarbee after the recruiting process was over.
"I honestly haven't noticed a difference," said Bussell. "He (Elarbee) was very real with me through my recruiting. That was one reason why I really liked it here. Because there was never any showmanship. Never anything fake with him. He told me how it is and how it was going to be. So I knew exactly what I was getting into whenever I was coming here."
Tennessee fans who lived through the Butch Jones era know that not all coaches are honest on the recruiting trail. There are plenty of big promises that are never delivered on. Top recruits, however, are smart. They can see through the bad sales jobs and the fake promises.
Most recruits just want "real". And it's clear from Bussell's comments this week that "real" is exactly what Tennessee's coaching staff is proving to be on the recruiting trail.
Recent results certainly seem to suggest that the realness from UT is paying major dividends.
