Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard (53) makes his way to the sideline before the first day of training camp practice Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Indiana.

It was a season to forget for the entire Indianapolis Colts, but a season that LB Shaquille Leonard may never be able to forget.

It's been a long road of recovery for the star LB who could only suit up for three games last season as he's been dealing with ankle and back issues.

Leonard's current health issue began over a year ago when it was discovered that a nerve issue was causing the LB pain from his back that would move down to his calf. The issue would leave Leonard sidelined until week 4 of the 2022 season.

Unfortunately, it would not be the end of Leonard's injury woes, as he would be knocked out of his 1st game back with a concussion. This would keep Leonard sidelined until week 8 of the 2022 season, and his season would come to an end after week nine after suffering a setback during his recovery.

This brings us to present day, where Leonard was able to pass his physical prior to training camp beginning. And since he has been a nearly full participant in Colts training camp. But during Saturday's practice, Leonard took part with the 1st team defense during 11 on 11. What makes this even more significant is he did so in full pads.

Time will tell if Leonard will be able to return to his All-Pro status, but before he can do that, he must return to the field. And this feat is a massive step towards that reality.
