The whole situation with Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts can be snuffed out as easily as it was brought to life and it's by going the opposite route of its creation.

It can be fixed by using common sense.

And that common sense is for both parties to put everything behind them and go all-in for 2023. The Colts can then let Taylor test free agency and see how much the NFL values him.

Sure, this would require a gentlemen's agreement: The Colts would have to give Taylor their word that they wouldn't use the franchise tag on him in 2024, regardless of what he does during the season. Even if Taylor returns the form that won him the league's rushing title in 2021 – the Colts would let him test the market, in this hypothetical.

At this point, it's unclear whether or not the relationship can be repaired for the long-term. Irsay's tweet -even if it wasn't pointed at Taylor, like he claims- was incredibly tone-deaf and short-sighted. Irsay is on Twitter a lot, as we all know, so there's basically zero chance he missed out on Taylor's tweets discussing his stance on the current mess that is the running back market. Irsay's been known to make controversial decisions in the past and this one certainly fits the bill. It's completely understandable if Taylor wants nothing else to do with the Colts owner moving forward.

So, why not just come to an agreement that puts Taylor in a spot where he wants to go out and have a great year? Not only would that help the Colts win games and Anthony Richardson develop, but it would put Taylor in a position where he can command a higher market in 2024.

It's an easy fix. It just takes common sense and humility, which isn't hard to come by – even in today's day and age.
