In the summer of 2021, Alabama head coach Nick Saban famously said at the Texas High School Coaches Association's annual convention that Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young, who was a redshirt freshman at the time, was earning close to seven figures thanks to NIL deals.

Young went on to become one of the most high-profile players in the nation and he was eventually selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.

The former Alabama quarterback, however, wasn't always swimming in cash at Alabama.

Before NIL deals were legal, Young had to get a job like most other college students (he was backing up Mac Jones prior to the 2021 season).

On Tuesday while speaking at Panthers training camp, Young revealed that he was a Door Dash driver at Alabama before the NIL era.

Young said he wore a mask (this was in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic) and he would usually only accept orders where he left food at the door. As a result, he said he wasn't really recognized by customers.

Oddly, Young said he never ended up delivering food to a teammate — which I'm sure would've been awkward.

NIL truly changed college football overnight. But it's hard to argue that it's a bad thing. After all, players like Young generate a ridiculous amount of money for college football programs. It's only fair that they receive their piece of the pie.
