Cincinnati Bengals fans held their breath when superstar quarterback Joe Burrow went down in practice last week and I'm not sure they'll exhale until they see the former LSU standout back on the field taking snaps.

Burrow's ailment has been described as a calf injury that's expected to keep the former No. 1 overall draft pick out "several weeks" (Cincy head coach Zac Taylor's words).

The feeling around the league is that Burrow will be ready to go for Cincinnati's Week One matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

Longtime NFL insider Albert Breer gave an update on Burrow's injury/rehab during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday and his reporting also indicates that Burrow should be good for Week One.

"While the team's out at practice, for right now — and he'll eventually get back out there where he'll watch practice — but for right now, he's inside doing therapy and rehab work while they're out at practice," explained Breer. "Again, it looks like he's gonna be fine. It doesn't — I mean, it's not ideal, you know, missing another month of practices just like he did last year. That's not how anybody would draw it up. But I feel like they really feel like they dodged a bullet [by the injury] not being what I think a lot of us thought it looked like when it first happened. And then also just on the severity."

That's certainly an optimistic update from Breer, who also noted that Burrow has been walking around in the locker room (the team was keeping him off the injured leg last week after the injury).

It's definitely not ideal — Burrow was looking forward to a "normal" training camp. But at the same time, the Bengals were always doing to be cautious with Burrow. And Burrow has been through this before (literally every offseason he's been in the NFL), so he knows how to prepare via mental reps. He'll undoubtedly be ready to go in Week One.
