The Tennessee Vols' offensive line received some extra training/guidance this offseason thanks to a future Pro Football Hall of Famer.
Vols offensive lineman John Campbell, a Miami Hurricanes transfer, told reporters on Monday that he took Tennessee's offensive line to Houston during the offseason to train with San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams.
"I got the whole O-line [and] took them out to Houston," said Campbell. "We trained with Trent Williams. We gelled together. We got our chemistry up…..we locked in."
Williams is a 10-time Pro Bowler who was actually pointed out this week by CBS Sports as a player that's a "lock" to reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
It's unclear how Campbell hooked up with with Williams. It's worth pointing out, though, that Williams played at Oklahoma from 2006 to 2009. Vols head coach Josh Heupel was the Sooners' quarterbacks coach during those seasons, so it's certainly possibly that Heupel connected Campbell with Williams.
By the way, Campbell noted on Monday that Williams was one of the folks that helped push him toward Tennessee. And since Williams has no previous connection to UT, the assumption has to be that the future Hall of Famer was vouching for Heupel.
Either way, the Vols' offensive line will be better in 2023 because they got to watch and learn from one of the best to ever do it in the NFL.
