The Cincinnati Bengals' final practice before welcoming the Green Bay Packers to the confines was a bit of a lighter session, focused on special teams and such to get things properly tuned up before another club joins in on the fun.
Fun is something Andrei Iosivas is having a lot of right now. The sixth-round pick out of Princeton is putting together solid practice after solid practice in the Bengals' offense. He can also climb the ladder and haul in tough catches, like the one he had against DJ Turner on Monday.
Tabbed as one of the "10 Preseason Players to Pull For" by Good Morning Football host Peter Schrager this morning, Iosivas continues to make the most out of his reps against the Bengals' cornerback room.
Whether it be in 11-on-11 work, or one-on-ones in the red zone, the wheels are starting to turn for the athletically gifted Iosivas.
Iosivas was not the only sixth-round pick the Bengals had in this year's NFL Draft. Rookie punter Brad Robbins has benefitted from incumbent punter Drue Chrisman missing practice time with an undisclosed trip to the hospital.
Robbins showed Monday in a practice filled with punts how much he can add to that phase of the game. His hang time for several punts were near (or over) five seconds, proving exactly why the Bengals invested a draft pick in his name.
There are very few spots on the Bengals' roster that are truly open. Iosivas and Robbins have the benefit of being rookies with four-year contracts, but they were not handed spots automatically when they first put their pads on this month.
They are earning their keep each and every practice, and it's becoming impossible to imagine them not being on the 53-man roster when Week 1 rolls around.
Fellow rookie Charlie Jones was back in pads just a few days after injuring his shoulder. Jones did some rehab work and was present in individual drills as well.
Starting right guard Alex Cappa did not practice as he's dealing with a minor strain, according to offensive line coach Frank Pollack. Cappa could be back as soon as Wednesday when the Bengals return for their joint practice against the Packers.
