Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt and running back Eric Gray were Tennessee Vols teammates in 2020.

Hyatt was a true freshman in 2020 while Gray was a sophomore.

Gray ended up transferring to Oklahoma after the 2020 season. Hyatt, meanwhile, stuck around in Knoxville for two more seasons (and won the Biletnikoff Award last year in the process).

The two former Vols were reunited earlier this spring when the New York Giants selected Hyatt in the third round and Gray in the fifth round.

So far, both players have had solid training camps.

In fact, the Giants' first depth chart — which is subject to change as preseason action progresses — has Gray listed as the team's top punt returner.

Hyatt, despite the highlight reel catches that he seemingly makes every day, is listed as the top backup to wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins.

That probably shouldn't come as a total surprise. Hyatt, after all, is still a rookie. And it would be a bit early for the Giants to crown a third round pick as a starter.

There's still a great chance that Hyatt earns a starting job before the start of the regular season. But he's going to have to continue his strong camp before New York head coach Brian Daboll has the confidence to name him as a starting wide receiver.
