Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni isn't revealing whether or not he'll play starters on Saturday's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
However, John Harbaugh's been in the NFL long enough for him to want to hold any secrets in August. He revealed on Thursday that Lamar Jackson and the rest of the team's established starters won't be playing. That means the Ravens will be potentially playing with quarterbacks Tyler Huntley, Josh Johnson, and Anthony Brown.
This news would be mostly irrelevant beyond just what to expect if the Eagles were playing literally any other team in the league. But this is the legendary, almost-mythical, preseason Ravens! The team is on a league-record 23-win streak in the preseason.
Sure, I say that mostly sarcastically. But we'd be lying if we said we won't think about it when the game comes on Saturday. The Ravens' decision makes it easier for the Eagles to etch their name in the odd place that is NFL preseason lore. Even if Jalen Hurts and the first-team offense play for one or two drives, that could be enough for putting them at the wheel the rest of the game.
Sirianni hasn't taken it easy in practice following the Eagles' deep playoff run that lasted all the way until February. So perhaps there will be no rest days for the team's established starters.
The Eagles will visit the Ravens on Saturday, August 12th, at 7 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium for the first football game since Super Bowl LVII.
