The Eagles' offseason was always going to be more about who the team can retain than anything else.

With a laundry list of pending free agents, the Eagles had to focus all efforts on keeping the band together. It was a successful effort mostly, with Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, James Bradberry, and Darius Slay all inking new deals.

With that being said, let's take a look at the Eagles' current depth chart after the initial wave of free agency.

The Eagles will have a new backup QB in 2023.

The addition of Mariota gives the team a backup that has a similar playstyle to Hurts. Ian Book is competing for the third QB spot if that exists.

The addition of Rashaad Penny could end up being one of the most underrated adds of the offseason. Penny has looked electric in spurts, but injuries are always a concern.

At the receiver, the Eagles are very top-heavy. I would not be surprised to see a veteran brought in on a one-year deal. It's a safe bet at least one receiver is drafted as well.

The line could suffer after losing Andre Dillard and Isaac Seumalo. That duo provided valuable depth and will need to be replaced.

The defensive depth chart for the Eagles after initial wave of free agency

The defensive line was able to remain mostly intact. The Eagles are counting on Jordan Davis to take that next developmental step.

The linebacker room lost TJ Edwards and Kyzir White, who had the most and second-most tackles on the team in 2022. The Eagles' top five tacklers from 2022 have signed elsewhere- Edwards, White, Epps, Gardner-Johnson, and Hargrave.

It's no secret that the team has many holes to fill on defense. Losing both starting safeties and 75% of the starting linebackers would hurt any team.

Expect the Eagles to be in the mix for veteran defensive free agents for the rest of the offseason. It also would not be surprising to see the Eagles use that 10th-overall pick on the best defensive player available.

Siposs seems to have control of the punter position for now. I'd expect the team to add a veteran at the position for camp.

Jake Elliott could face competition from a late-round or undrafted rookie.

Lovato should be set for his eighth season as the snapper in Philadelphia.

Covey showed promise as a returner, and I see him sticking in this role. Scott needs to have a big offseason/pre-season as a returner now that the RB room is crowded.

Final Thoughts: The Eagles' defense was probably never expected to match its' historic 2022 performance. However, a step back seems especially likely after losing multiple quality starters.

I'm most interested in the safety positions. It will be interesting to see if the team waits for the draft, or looks to free agency to add depth here.

I am not expecting the offense to suffer at all. If anything, the offense could be MORE dynamic with a healthy Rashaad Penny.
