And that was expected. The Bills' roster is in a good spot — they didn't need a lot of reinforcements.
Buffalo, however, did make a couple of nice additions. And CBS Sports specifically loved one of those additions
Earlier this week, the Bills signed former New England Patriots running back Damien Harris to a one-year deal.
Harris will replace Devin Singletary, who signed with the Houston Texans earlier this offseason.
On Friday, CBS Sports writer Cody Benjamin handed out grades for the biggest free agent moves of the week and he gave Buffalo's signing of Harris an "A-".
From CBS Sports: With Singletary gone, Buffalo was in the market for a bigger back to pair with the shifty James Cook, the favorite to take over as RB1. Harris is a prototypical low-risk, high-reward bet coming from the rival Patriots. You can't count on him to stay on the field, but when active, he's a well-rounded option who should feature in the red zone.
Harris should pair well with James Cook in the Bills' backfield. The only big concern is his health. Harris has never played a full season in the NFL (he did play in 15 games in 2021, but he's only played in 11 games in two of the last three seasons).
Sharing the backfield with Cook should help keep Harris healthy, but it would still be a surprise if he plays in all 17 games for the Bills in 2023.
Still, this is a low-risk signing by the Bills that filled a need without breaking the bank. It's not a deal that will generate a lot of headlines, but it was undoubtedly a solid move by Buffalo's front office.
