The Buffalo Bills are alleged to have had a second spitter in Week 6—and are now facing another suspension for it
The Buffalo Bills allegedly can’t stop spitting on people, and it’s earned them another suspension.
The Buffalo Bills learned earlier this week that they’d be without starting safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson for their next game after he was ejected for a spitting incident against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. It was a bad look.
So imagine the surprise when a release revealed that the Bills are facing the prospect of a SECOND one-game suspension on account of another alleged spitting incident against the Raiders. Special teamer Sam Franklin Jr. is the subject of this new development. And as of right now, he, too, will be suspended for the Bills’ next contest.
Buffalo Bills’ special teamer Sam Franklin Jr. joins Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in earning a suspension for spitting
It’s hard to believe this needs to be said, but hopefully the Bills spend some time on their off week emphasizing the importance of not spitting on opponents. Two separate one-game suspensions in relation to two separate spitting incidents in the same game? That’s…pretty wild.
Franklin Jr., as specified by the NFL release, will have the opportunity to appeal the decision. It sounds like he’s planning on doing exactly that. Assuming he’s guilty, the timing here is a tough look for Franklin Jr. after watching his teammate get ejected for a similar act in the same game.
Buffalo’s defense is already set to pay the price out of the bye for Gardner-Johnson’s actions. Now, their special teams unit is in danger of doing the same. Franklin leads the team in special teams snaps this season (132) through six games. He’s one of just four players on the roster to be in triple digits already this season. His loss would require a group effort. We’ll see how this sorts out over the bye. But right now? Hopefully two separate allegations are enough to ensure no Bills walk the line the rest of the season.
