Needing a solution to the holes that remained following the departure of C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Marcus Epps, the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to terms Friday with former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds. The contract is a one-year deal.

“I had five great seasons with the Steelers, met some great teammates, great coaches, great culture over there,” Edmunds told reporters Friday afternoon. “But when I came over here and I spoke to all of the coaching staff, and I talked to some of the guys on the Philly team, it really just brought me into it, and now I’m bought in. And I’m just ready to work. Ready to come here and give it everything I’ve got.”

Naturally, The Athletic provided a grade for the move. Except, these grades were given on a scale of "famous brothers," which offers some intrigue as to how some of the outlets NFL insiders feel about the free agent move Philadelphia made.

The grade Philadelphia received was the following: Jason McCourty.

Take a look at the analysis they provided as to why:

"Even though Devin McCourty was an All-Pro who was considered a top-of-the-league player, Jason was a respected starter in the NFL for more than a decade. He was a key part of successful defenses, and even if he didn’t reach the same level of accolades as his brother, his accomplishments could stand on their own merit. The difference here is that Jason signed a lucrative, multiyear contract extension (and subsequent big deals). Then again, there’s still time."

Additionally, Zach Berman offered some intriguing insight into how the Eagles could play better with the signing of Edmunds.

"On paper, it’s easy to sell Edmunds. He’s a 2018 first-round pick (even if he was considered overdrafted at the time) who has started 75 games for a formidable defense, has been fairly durable in his career and is only 26 years old. Nearly two weeks into free agency at a position with Justin Evans and Reed Blankenship as perhaps the best options for the Eagles, that’s a good place to start. Edmunds is more of a box safety, although he can cover tight ends and can run. The Athletic Steelers writer Mark Kaboly wrote that Edmunds “had his best season” in 2022."

It is an easy sell for Philadelphia. The second grade Philadelphia received was additionally interesting.

Take a look: Kieran Culkin.

"After Gardner-Johnson’s departure, the Eagles were left with a glaring hole at safety. Edmunds is experienced, young and durable (having only missed three games in five seasons), which is about as good as anyone could have hoped for from a player expected to start and signed this late in free agency. While Edmunds is overshadowed by his well-compensated brother Tremaine, the duo both emerged at a preternaturally young age. Now the Eagles are hoping Terrell can do well in a supporting role as part of an award-worthy ensemble. It’s Kieran Culkin."

Edmunds, 26, started 75 games in five seasons with Pittsburgh.
