Seahawks capitalize on star player falling in expert's latest mock
This would be hard to pass up.
Mock drafts have become one of the more popular pieces of content for fans during the NFL Draft cycle. Companies have made simulators for fans to mess around with and come up with endless possibilities of what their favorite team could do, come draft weekend.
Despite everyone having the ability to do mock drafts when certain people publish one, it is more important to pay attention to theirs. Why? Because they are "plugged in" with the NFL and can give you realistic possibilities that you should keep an eye out for. Names like Daniel Jeremiah, Bucky Brooks, and Dane Brugler are the first that come to mind.
And, as it just so happens, Brugler just published a mock draft.
In it, the Seahawks ended up with a very interesting player after a short slide: Georgia DT, Jalen Carter.
Now, "how does this happen?" you might ask.
Brugler mentions how below:
Given last week’s news that an arrest warrant had been issued for Carter back in Georgia, the potential No. 1 pick’s draft projection has become much more complicated. (Carter turned himself in, was released on bond and returned to the combine.)
Teams understandably love the player, but now they must exhaust every resource to ensure they can trust the person. Though Seattle has been burned in the past (see: Malik McDowell), every player is different and every situation is unique. Carter could end up looking like a steal here.
This presents a dilemma for teams. They must use extensive resources to dig into the situation further and find out more about Carter as a person. Teams are investing millions of dollars into these young players and they want to be sure they will get the most out of them.
Carter might be the number one overall talent in the draft, getting him at No. 5 could end up looking like a grand slam pick in a few years. With the recent extension of Geno Smith, QB appears all but off the table. So, they luck out here with arguably the best player in the entire draft.
Of course, we all know the Seahawks have more than one first-round pick this year; thanks to the Russell Wilson trade. So with their second first-round pick what do the Seahawks do?
They get their QB a new weapon to throw to.
Dane Brugler has the Seahawks taking Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the 20th pick in the draft.
Smith-Njigba was a borderline first-round talent for some entering the combine. With his performance he appears to have solidified his place in the first round. Smith-Njigba elected not to run, however his explosive and agility testing were quite good.
He tested with a 3.93 shuttle, a 6.57 short shuttle, both were a 9.91 and a 9.87 on his RAS score respectively. He broad jumped 10"05, good for 8.43 on his RAS, and his vertical was adequate at 35", good for 6.10 on his RAS.
Smith-Njigba projects as an immediate starter in the slot, he understands coverages he is facing and knows how to get open. He can truly become a QBs best friend. A receiver room of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba appears quite well rounded on paper.
