The Minnesota Vikings don’t currently have the salary cap space to make a major splash in free agency. However, there is one championship move the Vikes must consider.

On Friday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Rams are currently shopping six-time Pro Bowl cornerback, Jalen Ramsey.

Ramsey will bring a $17 million cap hit to whichever team acquires his serves if he is traded. But for a Vikings defense that could be just a player or two away from becoming elite, Ramsey makes sense.

Defensive coordinator Brian Flores runs a scheme that puts his cornerbacks in man coverage for the majority of their snaps. So having multiple corners who can hold their own on the outside is vital to the unit’s success.

Ramsey certainly fits the bill, but he obviously comes with a price.

Where things currently stand in late-February, the Vikings have four picks in the 2023 draft.

  • First round, 24th pick (23rd overall selection)
  • Third round, 88th pick (87th overall selection)
  • Fourth round
  • Fifth round

The Rams, who are in the process of ridding themselves of big contracts, will absolutely have interest in acquiring draft capital.

Ramsey is a player that would be worth parting with numerous high draft picks from, not just this year’s draft, but likely the 2024 draft as well.

Ultimately it’s up to general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to make the phone call to Los Angeles. Though the Vikings might not have what it takes to enter a bidding war, checking up on Ramsey is a task that the team has to complete.
