All signs seem to be pointing to Jordan Poyer of the Buffalo Bills taking his talents elsewhere.
The All-Pro safety will have plenty of suitors on the open market. While Bills Mafia has been bracing for the worst, the safety opened up about the free agency process. Needless to say, this sounds like a goodbye.
While he didn't specifically rule out a return, his statements made it seem like leaving Buffalo was a foregone conclusion. Poyer was candid about his future during the Jordan Poyer podcast.
Speaking on New York State taxes, along with the difficult winters, Poyer was blunt. “I would love to go to a state that doesn’t take half my money… It would be nice to see the sun, maybe, every week or so.”
Without saying as much, all signs seem to point to him joining the Miami Dolphins. In fact, in the background, you can spot a canvas with a gameday photo of Poyer against the Dolphins. The All-Pro safety spends a lot of his time during the offseason in Florida.
Poyer previously admitted during the Super Bowl weekend how Beane and McDermott reportedly haven't reached out to him regarding a new contract. Yet another sign that his tenure in Buffalo may be officially over.
Jordan Poyer has been a staple to the dominant Bills defense since his arrival. Pairing up with Micah Hyde has been a nightmare for opposing offensive coordinators. The high-end safety duo has made their presence felt day in and day out on gameday.
In fact, this past season, Buffalo had an absurd winning streak with Poyer in the lineup. The only game Buffalo lost this past season when Poyer was active on gameday was the playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
One of the most impactful moves during Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott's tenure has been the acquisition of Jordan Poyer. McDermott's next-man-up and be-the-best-you-can-be type mentality resonated quickly with Poyer. After injuries plagued his short stint with the Cleveland Browns, Poyer got a fresh start in Buffalo. Needless to say, Poyer rose to the challenge and revitalized his career. When you come to Buffalo, you become the best version of yourself.
The All-Pro safety deserves to get paid. It's an unfortunate reality that Buffalo just doesn't have the cap space to pay top-end money for an aging safety. Bills Mafia will look fondly back at their memories of Jordan Poyer if he were to leave.
Brandon Beane and the Bills' front office have their work cut out for them this offseason.
