Seahawks HC Pete Carroll takes the high road in Russell Wilson drama
Following the fall-out from the Russell Wilson drama, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll took the high road.
The fallout from The Athletic's report regarding Russell Wilson's dysfunction in his last season with the Seahawks could have given Seattle's head coach Pete Carroll the opportunity to disparage his former franchise quarterback.
Instead, the Super Bowl-winning coach took the high road, choosing to stick by Wilson, despite the reports that Wilson wanted Carroll fired.
"It is a similar response to all the guys I coached. I am always going to hang with them," Carroll said. "I am going to be there at the end of all of the good stuff and all of the bad stuff. That's it, I am hanging. I am still going to be there. It doesn't matter who the guy is, regardless of what has happened, what has taken place, or things that have been said, if you hang with them, it all comes back around. I'd like to demonstrate that faith in the relationship [with Wilson] and the depth of what we did together, and hang through whatever the challenge brings to us along the way."
Carroll's response comes as no surprise. He has always tried to take the high road when put in a difficult position. It also can't be ignored that though Wilson and Carroll didn't always see eye-to-eye, they still won a bunch of football games together. That is a bond that is difficult to break.
It also probably helps that Carroll saw Wilson struggle without him in the 2022 season, while the Seahawks found success with journeyman quarterback Geno Smith.
The saying goes, history is often written from the victor's perspective. Carroll is coming out of a Wilson-drama-filled week looking far better than his former franchise quarterback. The Seahawks are better for it.
