Eagles make NFC East division rival look silly with recent signing
The Philadelphia Eagles made the New York Giants look silly this week
The Philadelphia Eagles are getting in the habit of making the New York Giants look silly during the NFL offseason.
A year ago, the Giants released cornerback James Braberry in an effort to create salary cap space. The Eagles quickly signed Bradberry after he was released. The former second-round draft pick ended up having a Pro Bowl season.
Philadelphia signed Bradberry to a three-year extension earlier this week as a result of his stellar 2022 season.
Bradberry going from cap casualty in New York to star cornerback in Philadelphia is obviously a big win for the Eagles and a big loss for the Giants.
Early Friday morning, the Eagles made the Giants look silly again.
Philadelphia is reportedly signing quarterback Marcus Mariota to a one-year deal that can be worth up to $8 million.
So what does this have to go with the Giants?
Well, earlier this offseason, the Giants gave quarterback Daniel Jones a ridiculous amount of money. Jones signed a four-year extension worth $160 million.
New York is paying Jones $40 million a year for this very average stat line.

Now, I'm not saying Mariota is Jones. There's a reason that Mariota has bounced around the NFL over the last few years.
But the gap between the two players isn't as big as their salaries suggest.
Jones is younger and has more upside. But Mariota nearly produced at the same level as Jones last season while serving as a bridge quarterback to Desmond Ridder for the Atlanta Falcons.
Signing Mariota as a backup isn't a sign that Philadelphia got one over on the Giants. The last thing the Eagles want is for Mariota to play significant snaps in 2023 (that would mean something happened to Jalen Hurts). But if he's forced to start a couple of games, he's proven he can produce at nearly the same level as the Giants' starting quarterback for a fraction of the price.
What's the better usage of salary cap space?
Giants fans might disagree, but it feels pretty obvious that Philly has made the better quarterback decisions recently.
