Saquon Barkley is ready to remind everybody just how dominant he can be. The Philadelphia Eagles’ running back is already buzzing about what new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion’s system could mean for his game, and based on what he’s saying, the motivation is absolutely through the roof heading into 2026.

“I have a chance to be really good in the system too,” Barkley said. “I feel like it’s going to open up some things I may not have been able to show in my career.”

Saquon’s drive hasn’t slowed down

I take Saquon at his word. He’s usually a guy who does not beat around the bush. He tells you exactly what you need to know. And he has said it many times: he wants to be one of the greatest running backs to ever play this game. Every running back in the league shares that goal, but Barkley constantly brings it up. The drive is still there. The fire is still burning.

After a historic 2024 campaign, nobody expected him to replicate those numbers last year. But given all the factors the Eagles dealt with, the poor offensive line play, the injuries, the inconsistent play-calling, and just how bad the offense was overall, Barkley still managed to put together a productive season. You could call it a “down year” for Saquon, and he still had over 1,000 yards. That’s how good this guy is. That’s what constant greatness looks like.

The Mannion factor

Barkley has been singing Mannion’s praises since the hire. He called him an offensive genius and said he has things in his playbook that Barkley has never seen before. And now we’re starting to see all of it come full circle. Philadelphia’s offense should look drastically different under Mannion, and if Barkley is already feeling this confidence about what the scheme can do for him, that’s a great sign for the Eagles heading into training camp and beyond.

So could we see Saquon creep back up toward another historic campaign? I wouldn’t rule it out. The talent has never been in question. The explosiveness has never been in question. And now, with a system that might actually maximize what he brings to the table instead of limiting it, the ceiling feels incredibly high.

I am not concerned at all about Barkley’s age, his durability, or anything like that. This is a guy who has proven year after year that he’s built different. When the offense around him was falling apart last season, he still produced. Now imagine what happens when the scheme actually works in his favor. The Eagles needed this kind of energy heading into the offseason, and Saquon is delivering it.
