Raiders can't afford to go after QB Lamar Jackson
You won’t be seeing the Las Vegas Raiders in any rumors or reports going after one of the NFL’s best players for one main reason.
With the Raiders, a very well-known and respected organization, needing a quarterback for the 2023 season, you can expect to see their name being thrown around a lot for guys like Aaron Rodgers.
They have his former teammate in Davante Adams, so, that is a start too. But they also are able to afford his contract.
Per Field Yates of ESPN, the Dolphins, Commanders, Panthers, Falcons, and Raiders will not be pursuing Jackson. Here is why:
You won't see the Raiders going after a guy in Lamar Jackson, one of the best players in the league, and easily one of the best quarterbacks, who wants to be paid north of $40 million a year.
Sure, the Raiders have the fourth most salary cap in the league at $40 million, per spotrac, but, they don't have the liquidity or the cash over the cap. So, they just can't play that game.
Per Pro Football Network, the Raiders are one of the cheapest teams in the NFL when it comes to how much their owner is worth, and the money they can put out every single season. On that list, they, or Mark Davis I should say, comes in at 29th, with a net worth of $1.9 billion.
Meanwhile, the Ravens, the team Jackson wants to resign with, is at 13th.
The Raiders can afford a guy like Rodgers year after year after year, though. So, if they want a quarterback and don't want to use their top pick on one, I would suggest still trying to get Rodgers.
