Packers are one step closer to getting rid of Aaron Rodgers
Business is about to pick up for the Green Bay Packers this offseason according to a new report from an NFL insider
The Green Bay Packers have been in a holding pattern over the last few weeks when it comes to their offseason plans.
Green Bay can't do much until free agency starts next week. And thanks to quarterback Aaron Rodgers' looming decision, the Packers can't even formulate a plan.
It's hard to build a free agency plan when a team has no clue who its quarterback will be.
Fortunately for the Packers, it sounds like a decision from Rodgers is very close.
The New York Jets have been in talks with Rodgers and the Packers over the last several days.
And according to a report from ESPN's Dianna Russini on Thursday morning, the Jets are starting to feel confident that they can land Rodgers this offseason.
This doesn't mean that Rodgers is for sure heading to New York, but it's sure starting to feel that way — at least in the national media's eyes.
But when it comes to Rodgers, nothing is done until it's done. And there's still some skepticism that he'll actually leave Green Bay.
It's also a bit surprising that the Las Vegas Raiders, a team that needs a quarterback and employs one of Rodgers' best friends in WR Davante Adams, hasn't been more of a factor in the Rodgers sweepstakes.
I still lean toward Rodgers returning to Green Bay. The fact that he's not seriously considering the Raiders seems odd. Which makes me believe this whole deal is just a charade from Rodgers. He's getting the attention he likes and he's getting to enjoy a free agent-like process. Ultimately, though, I think he'll return to the Packers to finish his career. But again, you never know with Rodgers. I'm not sure he even knows what he wants to do.
