The Darius Slay news of this week came as a bit of a shock to Philadelphia Eagles fans.

During a time where the team appears to be in a great position to build for the future and try to get back to the Super Bowl, trying to trade off one of your best players doesn't seem like the best way to go about this.

The story initially struck some as weird based on the fact that the Eagles appeared to be the ones to initiate the discussion via a report from Dianna Russini, but Slay has brought some clarity to the situation.

Normally, this request comes from the player end and would indicate some type of bad blood, but Slay shut that down.

The Pro Bowl defensive back wasted no time in explaining his position on the topic both on Twitter and on his podcast.

Slay wants to remain in Philly. This trade discussion did not come from his end, this is merely a business move by a savvy Eagles front office.

This is a bit of a good news for Eagles fans as they can at least find some peace in the fact that one of their best players doesn't want to leave their team for a strange reason behind the scenes, but this doesn't mean that a big change isn't coming.

Slay is exactly right that this is a business. No team is made of money, and even the best general managers have to make moves that not everyone will like.

Howie Roseman obviously has faith in his own talents to find a replacement on the market or in the draft to make the cap relief worth it, and Slay acknowledging this fact does seem to imply that he means it when he says there is no bad blood.

The report regarding the trade still won't sit right with most Eagles fans that obviously want to keep one of their best players at a vital position, but it does seem like both sides are moving towards an amicable split.

Maybe Roseman and Slay can find a way to work for both parties, but it might be a good idea for Eagles fans to start getting familiar with corners in the 2023 NFL Draft.
