The Titans have numerous options going into the 2023 NFL draft. They hold the 11th pick in the draft and have been mocked almost every position on the board.

The Titans can go in any direction, whether it's linemen, receivers, corners, or more.

However, in recent mock drafts, there has been a shift to the Titans picking a quarterback. In PFF’s latest mock draft, they have the Titans selecting QB Will Levis.

Now, ESPN has released a new mock draft, where former NFL General Manager Mike Tannenbaum has the Titans picking Florida QB Anthony Richardson.

Here is what Tannenbaum had to say about the pick:

"Ryan Tannehill turns 35 years old in July, and the early returns on 2022 third-rounder Malik Willis haven't been encouraging. The Titans make a lot of sense for Richardson. He has compelling upside but needs more time to develop, and Tennessee wouldn't have to rush him with Tannehill under contract for another year.

Richardson started one full season in college, and his 53.8% completion percentage ranked 116th in the country last season. That must greatly improve for him to be an effective NFL quarterback. No college quarterback, however, broke more tackles as a runner in 2022 than Richardson (22), and he showed off 4.43-second speed in the 40-yard dash at the combine. Plus, he has a huge arm. Richardson's ceiling is as high as that of any prospect in this class."

This is a surprising pick for various reasons.

First off, most mock drafts have Richardson locked in as a top-five pick at this point. He tested incredibly well at the combine and is arguably the most athletic QB to ever enter the draft.

However, he is an extremely raw prospect. Richardson only has one full season as a starter, and it wasn’t anything that special. In 2022, he threw for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 12 games. He also ran the ball 103 times for 654 yards and nine touchdowns. Those are solid numbers but not what you usually see for a top-five draft pick.

The big red flag is that he only completed 54% of his passes last season. He was also a very inconsistent player. If you watch the right play, you wonder how he isn’t the lock to be selected number one overall. If you watch the wrong play, you wonder how he is getting drafted.

Picking Richardson would mean the Titans are completely resetting the roster and moving into a new era. It would bring a lot of excitement into the organization, as well as a lot of uncertainty.

However, if you have the opportunity to select a franchise QB, it is always a worthwhile gamble.
