The Minnesota Vikings are off and running as week two of OTAs is underway. While the Vikings have strong attendance across the board at these voluntary practices, the team’s most important player is yet to show.

Vikings superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been noticeably absent from OTAs. Though many stars across the league opt to workout with private trainers off site during this period of the offseason, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed his eagerness to get to back to work with one of the NFL’s most talented players.

O’Connell spoke to the media on Tuesday regarding Jefferson’s absence.

“For me, I hope to see him as soon as possible,” O’Connell told reporters. “I think our participation amongst the whole team has been so good that we’re able to get great work in. Would love to have him here, obviously, but I think as we work towards minicamp, we’ll have a real clean-cut plan of what that looks like. Hopefully get him some work and I know a lot of the guys will be excited to see him.”

It’s important to note that the two sides have been in communication throughout this process, and there seems to be a clear understanding between both parties.

“It’s one of those things that we’ve had great dialogue throughout the offseason, a lot of that will stay between Justin and I. But just know he’s getting good work wherever he’s spending his offseason, look forward to having him here when he decides to come up and I know his teammates will be excited about that.”

Jefferson has earned the trust of the Vikings with three straight seasons of at least 1,400 receiving yards. He flirted with Calvin Johnson’s all-time record for receiving yards in a single season after posting a ridiculous 1,809 yards on 128 catches in 2022.

Whatever Jefferson has been doing in the offseason has clearly been working. Not only has he managed to climb the NFL’s mountaintop at the receiver position, but he’s done so without missing a single game. Jefferson knows how important he is to this offense and should make his return for mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 13-14.
