By most accounts, the Indianapolis Colts crushed the 2023 NFL Draft. General manager Chris Ballard Shane Steichen developed a strategy and executed it well while building the team's roster.

Therefore, the team has built an exciting foundation for the first season of the Steichen era. Especially if their first-round pick, quarterback Anthony Richardson, is everything that the expect him to be.

But Richardson may not even be the team's best selection of the draft. That may be one of the Colts' picks on the final day of the event. At least, that's what NFL analyst Chad Reuter is somewhat alluding to.

The Colts made several selections on day-three of the NFL Draft. Ballard was wheeling and dealing on day-two, grabbing multiple selections to use on the final day. One of those selections was cornerback Darius Rush.

Indianapolis grabbed Rush in the fifth-round. The South Carolina defender was expected to go somewhere in the second- or third-round. Instead, the Colts capitalized on the former SEC standout still being on the board late.

And Reuter is comparing Rush to a Pro Bowler. He claims that Rush is this year's version of Tariq Woolen, who blossomed into a star defender for the Seattle Seahawks as a rookie in 2022.

Rush is this year's version of Tariq Woolen, Seattle's rookie surprise from a year ago. Nearly 6-2 and 200 pounds, Rush has the size and sub-4.4 speed to match pro receivers down the sideline. He's more physical than Woolen coming out of college, as well, so I suspect it's just a matter of time before he becomes a starter for the Colts."

That would be a home run for the Colts, especially considering the kind of value that Indianapolis got in the selection. Indianapolis had a need at corner after trading away Stephon Gilmore.

Fortunately, it appears that the team may have struck gold in the later stages of the draft. Rush has the talent and the opportunity to make a big impact in the secondary right out of the gate for the Colts.
