An Alabama Crimson Tide football player was asked about the Tennessee Vols' offense on Wednesday at SEC Media Days in Nashville.
And it's clear that he has nothing but respect for what the Vols are doing offensively under Josh Heupel.
Alabama junior linebacker Dallas Turner was asked about Tennessee's offense and he made it clear that stopping the Vols isn't easy.
“It’s a very high-powered offense, very fast,” said Turner (via USA TODAY).
“They had a great quarterback last year, Hendon Hooker, doing what he does best, throwing the ball and making completions, fast reads and all types of stuff like that,” added Turner. “They are very difficult to defend, an offense like that. We just came up short last year. We just hope for the best this year.”
There's been plenty of criticism about Tennessee's offense under Heupel over the last two years. But that's mostly been from opposing fan bases and analysts. The comments from Turner show that folks who are actually on the field don't feel the same way as the critics. Instead, they view the Vols' offense as a major challenge and something they "hope" to do well against.
It's just another example of how false narratives have followed the Vols for no reason over the last couple of years. Tennessee's offense is legit. And just because it's a different approach than most teams use doesn't mean it's a gimmick. Far from it, in fact.
